Sunflower Smiles

“HINATA, DUMBASS!” Kageyama yelled, as Hinata’s serve hit the net.

“Argh, I’m sorry!” Hinata clapped his hands together apologetically.

“Don’t mind, Hinata! Service Errors happen to the best of us!” Sugawara smiled.

“Alright, you guys! That was good practice! Hinata, work on your serves. Tsukishima, put some more effort into it. Suga, your receives need polishing. Tanaka stop practicing your glares, dammit. Ennoshita, Yamaguchi, don’t be so hesitant. That’s it for today, do a few laps and pack up! Dismissed!” Coach Ukai clapped his hands.

“OSSU!”

Kiyoko and Yachi began to pick up the volleyballs lying around as the team did final stretching and laps.

“Ah… I’m really bad at serves, huh.” Hinata sighed.

“Dumbass.” Kageyama said behind him.

“Is that your only insult?!” Hinata bit back.

Kageyama ignored him. “We should practice serves!” He said.

“Eh? You’ll show me that ‘BUWHAAAAM’ serve that you do?!” Hinata asked, excitedly.

“…Yeah.” Kageyama mumbled.

Hinata’s entire face lit up, making Kageyama’s stomach lurch. “Your face looks like a dumbass, dumbass!” Kageyama pushed Hinata’s head away, running forward.

“Why are you running ahead- hey! I won’t lose to you, Kageyama!!” Hinata ran after the setter.

“Ugh.” Tsukishima said behind the both of them. “The only way they get their feelings across is by yelling at each other. Pathetic.” He clicked his tongue.

Yamaguchi snorted. “Nice, Tsukki.”

“It’s getting colder…” Hinata blew into his palms and rubbed them together.

“Hmm. Atleast it’ll be easier practicing outside since it’s cooler.” Kageyama shrugged.

Hinata smiled just thinking about practicing Volleyball with Kageyama again. “Yeah!” He turned to the taller boy and grinned.

Kageyama felt like he was undergoing heart failure. “Stop doing that thing with your face!” He said, pushing Hinata’s head in the other direction again.

Hinata struggled. “That hurts! And what are you talking about? What thing?!”

“Hell if I know! It’s your face!” Kageyama said.

Hinata found himself laughing. “You’re not making any sense!”

Kageyama pushed his face away again. “THAT.”

Hinata looked up to notice Kageyama was slightly red in the face. “What, my smile?” Hinata tilted his head. “I think you have a fever. You’re all weird.”

“I’m allergic to your face.”

“THAT’S RUDE.”

Hinata crossed his arms. “What’s with you all of a sudden? Jeez.”

“It’s like when I look at your face it feels like I’m looking at the sun, my stomach gets all woozy and my heart feels like it’s gonna stop. It’s like the tingly rush I get when I throw a good toss, or something.” Kageyama explained, wiggling his fingers.

“Kageyama.” Hinata started.

“What?”

“You’re awfully honest, aren’t you?” Hinata said, a mild blush on his cheeks.

Kageyama raised his hands defensively. “I'm just allergic to your face!”

Hinata smiled. “Don’t you just really like my face?”

Kageyama pushed Hinata’s head.

Hinata chuckled. “Wah, Kageyama-kun, you don’t have to be so shy about it~”

“Shut up, dumbass!”

“Ahhh, Kageyama-kun looooves me~” Hinata continued.

“I-I don’t- shut up! You love me too!”

“Obviously not as much as you love me, Bakageyama. ‘Oooh, my heart’s gonna stoooop, Hinata you’re so handsome~’” Hinata said as he changed his voice to a higher pitched tone.

“I DIDN’T SAY IT LIKE THAT!”

Meanwhile, the rest of the team members walked behind the two 1st years slowly. The air hung awkwardly around the team.


“Did they... forget we were here?”
