Amaryllis

Christmas Eve.

Silver groaned in utter annoyance. He walked down the street, his bright red muffler wrapped around his neck and half of his face. Silver could smell the familiar chocolatey scent on it. He walked past happy families, Christmas decorated shops and houses, the scent of candy canes and freshly baked plum cakes, and irritating priests who demanded to tell him the true meaning of Christmas.

How infuriating.

And to top it off, he was on his way to meet a certain very festive pigtailed girl. Silver groaned for what seemed like the 100th time that day, and continued to walk on his way.

Silver walked amidst the cheery crowds of Goldenrod City. He walked past the gym to the Flower Shop at the East Corner of Goldenrod. He walked through the door, sighing.

"Silvy!~"

There was a blur of brown, and he was knocked to the ground.

"OOF!" He managed.

Kotone laughed happily. Her giggle rang in Silver's ear, and Silver temporarily forgot everything. But the redhead gained his composure quickly, and he growled.

"Arceusdammit woman! Get off!" He barked.

Kotone pouted. "Jeez... alright alright, grumpypants."

Kotone got up and held out her hand. Silver let out a "HMPH!" and got up on his own.

Silver dusted himself off, and glared at Kotone who wandered off to sniff the flowers.

"Oi, Woman! What the fuck are you doing?! Why'd you call me here?!" Silver trailed Kotone as she walked through aisles. The girl swerved and zigzagged alot it was hard to follow her. Silver ended up being hit in the face by the branch of an Oran tree.

The boy cursed loudly. "Kotone, dammit!"

He ran after her and caught her wrist. "What is up with you?!"

Kotone tilted her head in confusion. "What's your hurry? It's Christmas Eve, Silvy. Wouldn't you want to spend it with someone?" She smiled.

"Ha? Spend it with someone? What, do you think I'd want to spend it with you? I have training to do." Silver stated.

Kotone laughed again, that same calming laugh. "And who would want to celebrate their birthday all alone?"

Oh.

"Birthday..." Silver said unconsciously.

Right, it was his birthday.

"What, you didn't think I'd forget, did you?" Kotone took his hand.

She lead him to the shop's counter. She greeted the shop owner warmly. "Hey there, Ms. Lillia... can I have the present please?"

"Sure thing, sweetie." The owner smiled back.

She handed Kotone a small red box. Kotone thanked her and walked towards Silver.

"Happy Birthday, Silver." Kotone smiled sincerely and handed Silver the box.

Silver stared at it for a few seconds then pulled the ribbon and took the box's top off. He took out a vial filled with liquid, and inside it was a bright and blooming red flower.

"A flower? How weak do you think I am..." Silver said, examining the vial.

Kotone chuckled. "I figured you'd say that."

She pointed to the flower. "This flower is called Amaryllis. Aside from being incredibly beautiful on the outside, this flower blooms in December. During the harsh winter months, it stays strong and proves it to the world by blooming beautifully. When I heard about it, it reminded me alot of you, Silver." Kotone giggled.

Heat rushed to Silver's cheeks.

Kotone looked Silver in the eye. Her hazel orbs glowed with radiant warmth. "This flower... I don't think it's weak at all."

"I-I... d-don't-" Silver stuttered in abash.

"Ah, I'm sorry for interrupting you two..." Silver heard the owner say.

She pointed to the mistle toe above his and Kotone's head and laughed.

"But do you realize where you two have been standing all along?"
